Shipman’s Fire Equipment and The Connecticut Fire Academy Present a Free Training Class on Pet Rescue and Rehabilitation

Please join May 12, 2016, us as Dr. Goldman, Veterinarian and Canton Volunteer Firefighter and Dr. Roasa, Team Leader of CT Region 2 Animal Response Team provide an overview and hands on instruction with a canine in the proper use of a Pet 02 Mask for resuscitation. The session also includes working with animals in crisis on the fire ground.

In addition, to avoid being bit, Bob Davis, owner of MARSARS Water Rescue Systems will be providing an interactive session on techniques and new, safer distance ice rescue equipment to aid in the rescue of dogs.

Shipman's offering free Equine Rescue and Evacuation class for local Firefighters!

Barn on Fire

Barn fires can be an intimidating event for firefighter with little experience dealing with horses. Shipman's has partnered with Phoenix Rising Stables of North Stonington to provide a free training class on how to deal with these beautiful animals when tragedy strikes. Barns come in all shapes and sizes, and most districts will find they may have small stables they don't even know exist. Some of the topics covered by this half-day class are:

  • An overview on barn facilities and discussion on the differences in barn facilities that can be found throughout our area.
  • Overview of the different types of horses and the various breeds’ behavioral tendencies.
  • Discussion of Horse behavior in general including instincts and reactions.
  • Barn fire causes and what to expect from Horses behavior in a barn fire.
  • Alternative methods of getting horses out of the barn including haltering, leading and herding them out.
  • Review of leading the infirm or blind horse which may be encountered in the region.

This is a full, hands-on course working directly with different horse breeds in disaster scenarios. Reference Materials will be provided. Shipman's named Ferrara Authorized Service Center for 2015

Ferrara Fire Apparatus has named Shipman's Fire Equipment as it's Authorized Service and Parts Center for 2015. Ferrara will sell it's top of the line Fire Apparatus Factory Direct in 2015 and Shipman's will continue to provide their excellent service for any part, repairs, installations and warranty work for customers in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Shipman's Fire Equipment, founded in 1957, is a third generation family owned business, and sells and services top quality Firefighting Equipment and Fire Safety products. Shipman's Apparatus Service Department has trained and certified technicians that can perform most service and testing needs on all types of Fire Apparatus. Their mobile service vehicles and mobile pump testing equipment allow service at a fire company, enabling apparatus to stay close to response areas while maintenance is performed.

CDC issues guidelines for First Responders dealing with suspected Ebola patients

The Center for Disease Control has issued Interim Guidance for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems and 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) for Management of Patients with Known or Suspected Ebola Virus Disease in the United States. The outbreak originated in West Africa in March of 2014 and has since spread, with one death and two confirmed cases in the United States to Date. This morning, Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT confirmed they are monitoring a patient that had traveled to Liberia and is running a fever.

NYPD sends Decon Trailer to Shipman's for service

NYPD Decon Trailer

The NYPD recently sent one of their 2007 ACSI Decon trailers to Shipman's Fire Equipment for service. The unit was in for general maintenance and any needed repairs.

Many State and local departments use the trailers for response to hazardous materials incidents. Proper maintenance is key to keeping these specialized pieces of equipment in good working order. The trailers may sit for long periods of time between uses and maintaining all the systems is important work.

Shipman's Fire Equipment is an authorized repair facility for the trailers and is experieced in the repair and maintenance of all manner of emergency vehicles. Their trained and certified technicians are able to work on many types of equipment, from these trailers to Fire Apparatus and Ambulances. Their technicians have experience working with the specialized systems employed in these unique pieces of equipment.
